Terms of use

The service

HazardPulse is an independent research service operated by Coherence Energy Labs. It publishes probabilistic forecasts for earthquakes, hurricane rapid intensification and US tornadoes, built from public data from government agencies and published science.

HazardPulse is not a warning system. It does not issue official forecasts, watches, warnings or advisories, and its forecasts are for research and information only. Follow the National Weather Service, the National Hurricane Center, the USGS, your national services and your local emergency officials for every decision about safety; never use HazardPulse as the sole basis for evacuation, sheltering or any emergency-management decision.

No warranty

All pages, data, forecasts and API responses are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, availability, merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. A probabilistic forecast states a likelihood, not a certainty; no individual forecast is guaranteed to be right.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, Coherence Energy Labs and HazardPulse are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential or exemplary damages arising from the use of, or reliance on, any forecast or data from this service; from decisions made on the basis of it; from any interruption of the service; or from errors or omissions in it. You are responsible for how you interpret and act on what it publishes.

Licences

• Code, forecasts and derived data. HazardPulse’s source code, and the derived tables and model outputs it publishes, are licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0-only), as the repository is. A commercial licence is available for uses that cannot meet the AGPL’s terms.
• Credit. When you use the forecasts, credit HazardPulse and link to hazardpulse.com, and never present them as official warnings.
• Source data. Data from US government agencies (USGS, NOAA, NHC, SPC, NWS) is in the public domain; HazardPulse adds no restriction to it. GEAR1 (Bird et al. 2015) is used under CC BY 4.0.

Using the API

• No key is needed. Keep to 120 requests a minute from one address; above that the API may answer 429.
• Automated abuse, attempts to disrupt the service, and resale of the API as a competing service are not permitted.
• Endpoints are versioned (/api/v1/) and documented on the API page; availability is not guaranteed.
